Gratitude and Food
It's interesting to me, someone who has studied the connection between the mind and body for many years, that gratitude and food in todays society don't seem to have a connection. A long time ago it was a part of almost every culture and every tradition to give thanks for food. We even have a holiday to give thanks for the harvest although many people have forgotten what the holiday signifies.
In North America in particular we are struggling with weight, getting heavier and working harder to lose the weight. When I think about everything that I've learned about the connection between our mind and our body, I know and understand that the way you think has everything to do with the state of your body. I started to grasp this years ago and now I live, breath and teach this concept.
The way that you assimilate what you eat into your body is important. If you eat with guilt or shame or with fear that what you are eating will make you fat than you most certainly are on the path to gaining weight. If you eat with pure gratitude and love the food you are eating and grateful for how it will nurture your body then it will assimilate in a way that is healthy. Maybe it's time to get back to saying grace before you eat regardless of what your spiritual or religious position is.
