My first most important life gift came to me about 17 years ago when I went to my very first homeopathic doctor. I found out that I had food sensitivity to wheat and dairy. After successfully cutting these elements out of my diet, my life changed. All of a sudden I had mental clarity, more energy, clearer skin, and my bowel movements & mood swings were regulated and felt more at peace within myself.
How could something so simple make such a big impact? I had to know. I started reading everything and anything to do with health, and oddly enough, information about the environment came right along with it. It seemed you couldn’t have one without the other. I learned that everything I did had an impact on everything else. I became acutely aware that every choice I made would impact on everything around me. And so I became a Conscious Responsible Co-Creator. How much of an impact do we have with the choices we make? I’m coming from a very humanitarian, environmental, health (EHH) mindset and not an economical one. I know that we’ll always find a way to survive, selling/buying goods, whatever they may be. Let me give you an example and how in just 10 minutes, you can make a huge impact and become a Conscious Responsible Co-Creator. You need dinner. So you go into your local grocery store and buy something, put it in one of their plastic bags and bring it home. A “no brainer” because you’ve been doing it for years. Now let’s think this through on our impact on the world and our health and how we could change it EHH style. Now you go into the grocery store and this time chose organic fresh veggies without any plastic or packaging involved. The chicken is organic and for desert you chose fair trade bananas and chocolate. How much of an impact have you made? Let’s have a look: Organic: Chock-full of micro-nutrients and trace minerals that are important for human nutrition, improves Soil fertility, less pollutants in our water, protection for the farm workers who are not absorbing toxic chemicals into their bodies. Say no packaging: Over 1,000,000 seabirds and marine mammals die each year from plastic ingestion of entanglement. You may have just saved one or a few. Fair Trade: Forced and abusive child labor is prohibited. Are you visualizing that child laughing now and playing? Fair Trade bananas & Chocolate: Rainforest destruction is one effect of the banana industry. Cocoa companies pay prices so low that many cocoa farmers cannot meet their families’ basic needs. You’ve not only saved a part of the rain forest, you’ve also helped families in need. Organic chicken: Because of a high stress environment, continuous use of anti-biotic is needed to keep the birds alive. Hormones are also sometimes fed to force the rate of growth. We don’t need to be eating stressed out, chemical and hormonally induced food. The old adage of we are what we eat plays an important role in our lives now more than ever. We do have choices. When I get asked about the cost that may come with changing our habits, I always question our priorities. If we spend a lot of money on our cars, our homes and our things, what about your health for you and your family? Shouldn’t that be the most important priority of all? We make choices everyday. Our decisions HAVE an impact. We can change the world one decision at a time. By changing our buying habits will create more of a demand for such products, teach our children and friends by our example and create a more sustainable, harmonious healthy world for all of us to share. |
